It’s been a crazy, unpredictable and worrying year for everyone – and not one that any of us will want to see repeated. So we’re having a farewell to 2020 blowout, with some of (what we believe), are our best releases of the year. All the following will be released on our online shop and be available from independent retailers from the evening of 25th November.
In cans:
We see the return of an old friend – ‘Devils Rest’ IPA. Remember ‘dank’? This one has it in spades and it has been a real joy to revisit, revamp and rebrew this beer, that was one of our originals from 2013. Burnt orange in colour, with a full mouthfeel and a huge amount of pine and resinous hop notes.
‘Before the Dawn’ Imperial Stout – at 10.5%, this is the strongest beer we’ve ever made and was brewed over 2 days. Cellared for 6 weeks before packaging, this is a straight up impy with no silly additions. An abundance of coffee, chocolate and burnt berry flavours from the malts, with a light tobacco note from the East Kent Goldings hops.
In 750ml Champagne bottle:
‘Apricot Rustique’, our wild Belgian style pale was exhibiting apricot notes on tasting from foudre this summer, so we thought it would be fun to split the batch. This addition was further aged on whole apricots for 3 months at a rate of 300 grams per litre. Initial sourness to start, it soon opens up to full fruit and an aged wood character that is enhanced by the apricot stones.
‘Cuvée 2020’ an annual release that we always look forward to with a slight sense of trepidation due to the fact we normally believe each years blend to be the best yet. We choose which foudre of Saison Provision is exhibiting the best qualities and then add more Provision from a solera system of barrels that goes right back to our inception in 2013. Finally we blend in 30% lambic, imported from Belgium and aged by us. This vintage is especially poignant, as the COVID-19 situation has meant we have not been able to make our annual jaunt across the water to purchase lambic for the next year. We hope this can be rectified, as this is a beer close to our hearts – something that symbolises all our original dreams and aspirations.
In 1.5 litre Magnum:
‘Assemblage 2’ The second foray (as the astute will work out by the name), into our annual magnum release. This year, the beer is comprised of our ‘Coolship 3’ blend, aged saison and 2 year old lambic. The blend was given a light dry hop in the blending tank with whole leaf Goldings for an additional earthy note that perfectly compliments aged oak and wild yeast character. Joyful and spritzy in the glass, we have aged this beer for months in bottle – enjoy now, or lay down for a year or 10.
We also have some new branded glassware – 3 classic shapes to enjoy our beers from and being as we have reverted to corking and capping all bottles, we have a small quantity of branded double lever corkscrews. These ensure that the cork is easily removed with no damage.
In addition we will also have E-Gift cards, a couple of beautiful new giclee prints signed by our friend and artist Simon Gane plus some snuggly new sweatshirts available!
Finally, from us all at Burning Sky – thank you for your continued support throughout this time. We wish you all the best for the Festive period and happiness for the New Year.
